Jonas D. Barbiaux Jonas D. Barbiaux, 86, of Luxemburg passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Bellin Hospital. He was born on September 25, 1930 in Luxemburg, to the late Elmer and Dorothy (Kohlbeck) Barbiaux. Jonas graduated from St. Mary School and Luxemburg High School. He married Lucille Lemens on November 17, 1951 at St. Mary Church in Luxemburg, and recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Jonas was self-employed for many years and later worked as a carpenter at Bellin Hospital until his retirement in 1995. He was the building inspector and a member of the planning commission of the Village of Luxemburg for many years and was a member of the Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors from 2000-2004. He was a member of St. Mary Church and the Holy Name Society. Jonas was an avid sports fan. He started the Luxemburg Youth Baseball League when his children were young. He umpired softball and baseball for many years. Jonas loved to attend sporting events around the area; cheering on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and their teammates. He was a huge supporter of the Green Bay Packers and the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans. He received many honors: the Luxemburg Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 1977, the Luxemburg Lions Presidents Award in 1997 for his work as the caretaker and repairman of the hospital equipment, and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Lions Club as well. He also served as President and board member of the Northbrook Country Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his eight children: Mary (Arlin) Karnopp, LuAnne (John) Kaye, Bob (Janie) Barbiaux, Sue (Ken) Davister, Bill (Nancy) Barbiaux, Kathy (Pete) VanDeHey, Debbie (Dennis) Mercier, and Janelle (Jeff) Zoeller. He is further survived by his 23 grandchildren: Candy (Steve) Hanmann, Angie (Mike) Peterson, Kate (Bruce) Kinjerski, Rob (Nicole) Karnopp, Dusty (Danielle Brey) Karnopp, Jim (Jessica) Kaye, Kevin (Kate) Kaye, Amy (Will) Rutherford, Nick (Jenn) Davister, Michelle (Tim) Boland, Alison (Adam) Dedrick, Peter Barbiaux, Tim (Ashley) Barbiaux, Steve (Erin) DeGrand, Danielle (Eric) Smith, Emily (Kyle) Geiger, Colyn VanDeHey, Nicole VanDeHey, Katrina (Justin Pigeon) VanDeHey, David (Jenna Berken) Mercier, Dan (Natalie Lloyd) Mercier, Dylan (Alicia Dalebroux) Mercier, and Caleb Zoeller; and his 25 great-grandchildren: Madison and Sophie Hanmann; Emma Peterson; Lydia, Bella, and Abby Kinjerski; Ryker and Ainsley Karnopp; Autumn, Alexis, and Stella Kaye; Jacob, Bennett, and Nora Davister; Parker, Hudson, and Jace Boland; Clare, Jonas, and Liam DeGrand; Landon and Brayden Smith; Jackson and Cole Geiger; and Violet Pigeon. He is also survived by three sisters, two brothers in law and two sisters in law: Dorothy Heim, Marilyn and Tom Melchior, Bonnie Seiler, Harold Lemens, Irma Daul, and Janice Lemens; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one infant son: Joseph; one infant granddaughter: Jennifer Kaye; his parents, his mother in law and father in law, Mary and George Lemens; four brothers, two sisters in law, four brothers in law, and a niece and nephew: Charles, Donald and Rita, Anthony, Maurice, Berdina Lemens, Lawrence Heim, Jerry Seiler, Harold Daul, Leonard Lemens, Jenifer Heim, and Dale Barbiaux. Friends may call 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Sugarbush, 5930 Humboldt Road, Luxemburg. WI 54217 on Sunday, March 12, 2017. A closing prayer service 6:00 PM on Sunday. Visitation will continue between 9:30 AM and 10:45 AM Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Sugarbush. Funeral 11:00 AM, Monday at the church with Rev. Milton Suess officiating.
