Obituary

Alan Charles Nimmer, 72, fell asleep in Jesus and awoke to eternal glory to be with his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2026, at Caraton Commons, a nursing home in De Pere, WI.

Alan was born on December 7, 1953, in Two Rivers, WI to Lawrence Herman Nimmer and Millie Louise (Marit) Nimmer, and lived his childhood years on the family dairy farm south of Kewaunee, WI. He was baptized soon after birth and later confirmed in the Christian faith on Palm Sunday, April 7, 1968, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kewaunee.

During his high school years, Alan was on the football team coached by Don Rabas during a perfect, undefeated 28-game winning streak without giving up a single point in 68 straight quarters of play. Alan graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1972. Alan started working as a deckhand on the tugboat Ludington in Kewaunee, moving barges around Lake Michigan.

Later Alan attended business classes at Northeast Wisconsin Technical Institute. He used his training in business and finance to gain experience in a variety of financial jobs around the Green Bay area. His first job in finance was in loan collections for Commercial Credit Corp., then personal banking for Valley Bancorporation, and after building financial expertise in real estate transactions and mortgage loans through other banking institutions, Alan achieved the position of Vice President of the Mortgage Loans Dept. at Citizens Bank of Shawano as the highlight of his financial career.

Toward the end of his financial services career, Alan became part-owner of two Shawano-area businesses: Lazy Days Cottages, and the Lone Pine Resort on Shawano Lake. He also bought a few lake properties for rental/resale in the area and was licensed as a Real Estate Broker. Then he stepped away from financial work to become a franchise owner and managing director of franchisees for Pro One professional commercial cleaning services in Green Bay from the mid-1990’s until disabled by a major stroke in July 2018.

Throughout his life from 6 to his 60’s, Alan was the entertainer at any social event! His outgoing personality, fun-loving nature, and witty sense of humor made him the life of the party! Although he had no formal music training, he had a great baritone voice and the rhythm and stage presence to be an excellent performer. Alan used those skills to present impromptu events using skits, stories, and songs to raise funds for cancer, leukemia, and organ transplant patients in the greater Green Bay area. Among his closest friends and relatives, he loved to do imitations: Don Rabas (his KHS coach), uncles (Harold K, Clarence M, Tom H), celebrities (Walter Brennan, Rodney Dangerfield, Ronald Reagan) and his favorite: Elvis Presley! His recreation room displayed a vast collection of Elvis memorabilia. Alan performed numerous Elvis impersonations on stage around the Kewaunee and Green Bay areas.

Alan enjoyed a wide range of music, including polkas/waltzes, rock & roll, big band, jazz, and pop/country genres, collecting hundreds of recordings for his friends’ entertainment. He loved golfing (2-3x/week), relaxing around a backyard bonfire, and interacting with friends and neighbors at local events. His social life will be greatly missed by anyone who knew Alan.

Alan is survived by his brother, Gene, and sister-in-law Annemarie Nimmer, Beaver Dam, WI; nephews Nickolas Nimmer, Lafayette, CO; Michael Nimmer, and special friend Penny Kurkiewicz, De Pere, WI; Mark (Kari) Nimmer, and grand-nephews Nathaniel, Miles, and Emmett Nimmer, New Berlin, WI. He is also survived by his best friend for over 50 years, Gregg Verboncouer, his ex-wife, Barbara Koss (married from 1994 to 2014), and other relatives and friends.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence (1993) and Millie Nimmer (2003).

The family would like to thank his caregivers at Lakeland Care, Green Bay; Oconto Health and Rehabilitation Center; and Caraton Commons Nursing Home, De Pere, for their compassionate care services. As his court-appointed guardian, the family expresses its sincere gratitude to Sieanna Schierland (Benevolent Guardianship Inc., Green Bay) for managing and directing Alan’s care since he left his house in 2025. The family also thanks McMahon Funeral Home, Luxemburg, WI for their kind and sympathetic care shown to Alan and his family.

Alan was a long-time member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Green Bay, WI. The family would especially like to thank the ministerial staff for the faithful service in bringing God’s Word and Holy Communion to Alan at his house for many years, and in the past year at the nursing homes. In particular, the family thanks Dr Mike Pfeifer, Staff Minister, for his faithful service to Alan. Through many difficult and uncertain times, God’s Word and sacrament sustained and strengthened his faith in his Savior, Jesus, so that Alan knew that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him”.

Visitation for Alan will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2160 Packerland Drive, Green Bay, WI 54304. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Kewaunee. Memorials in Alan’s name may be made to: Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
