Barbara J. Smeester, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the age of 83, at Patient Pines Assisted Living, where she had been living for the past four years. Barbara was born on May 19, 1939, in Kewaunee, Wisconsin to the late Stanley F. and Clementine (Baye) Svoboda. She was an only child. Stanley was a master cheese maker at Badger State Cheese. Clementine was a stay-at-home mother. Barbara met Henry J. Smeester Jr. at a local dance in 1955. They married on May 19, 1956. Henry was an auto mechanic and had his own body shop. They moved to Green Bay to start their family. They had three children Brad, Bruce, and Denise. Barb was a stay at home mother until the boys where in middle school, then she became interested in antiques and started collections and selling them part-time. In 1980 Barbara and Henry divorced and Barbara moved to Appleton and started About Time Antiques and later American Heritage Antiques. Barb loved auctioning and selling at antique shows all over the state. She had many great friends in the Antiquing world. In May of 2018, Barbara was diagnosed with dementia and in July 2018 she had a non-cancerous tumor removed and has been a resident at Patient Pines Assisted Living since. Barbara is survived by her three children, Brad Smeester, Luxemburg; Bruce (Cindy) Smeester, Denmark; Denise (Michael) Steckel, California; three grandchildren, Morgan (Jyoti) Paul, Matthew Smeester, and James Smeester. Friends may call between 9:45 and 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at St. Mary Church, Luxemburg. Funeral 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Daniel Schuster officiating. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Luxemburg. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Barbara’s name.
