Charles Richard Stoxen, 96, Dykesville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 15, 2025. He was born October 31, 1928, to Raymond and Alma (Keller) Stoxen in Burlington, WI. Charlie was the youngest of 3 children and grew up understanding the value of commitment to family and friends.
In November of 1950 Charlie was drafted into the US Army and entered into active duty as a Private E-1. He served for two years during the Korean War as a truck mechanic and spent a year in foreign service. During his service he received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars – the United Nations Service Medal. Charlie was a proud member of the American Legion Post 0139 for 73 years.
On May 4, 1968, Charlie married the love of his life, Carol Nellis at St. Amand Catholic Church, Walhain and shared 57 wonderful years together. They welcomed their beloved son Joe on September 12, 1970. Charlie’s love of family extended beyond the three of them. He was also very good to Carol’s mom, Josie and anything she needed, he was always happy to help.
Charlie was a man of faith and out of love for his family he converted to Catholicism in July of 1988 where he was baptized, received holy communion and welcomed the Holy Spirit into his heart through confirmation.
For most of his career, Charlie managed an asphalt plant and after his retirement he continued to work for UWGB as a security officer. Charlie was a proud lifelong member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139.
Perch fishing on the Bay was something Charlie enjoyed with Carol and Joe. He was a proud Green Bay Packers shareholder and watching weekly games was a family affair.
Charlie is survived by his wife Carol, son Joe, sister and brother-in-law Laverne and Don Dalebroux and many nieces and nephews. He loved and was loved by many nieces and nephews but held a special place in his heart for his great niece, Katie Arlt and his great nephew, Drew Charles.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elma (Keller) Stoxen, mother and father-in-law Josephine and Joseph Nellis, brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Joan Stoxen, sister and brother-in-law Eunice and John Cherven, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Muriel and James Charles, and his niece Maggie and nephew Steve.
Visitation will be held at St. Louis Church in Dykesville on Sunday, July 20th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm with a prayer service at 3:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, July 21st from 9:00 am to 10:50 am. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am with Fr. Antonio Rex Palaya and Fr. Rommel Rodriguez Dacoco concelebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by American Legion Ralph Klein Poist 262 of Luxemburg. McMahon Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
