Ethel M. (Routhieaux) Hermans, 88, New Franken, passed away Tuesday December 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 14, 1935, in the Town of Lincoln to the late Fred W. and Jennie (Finendale) Routhieaux. She married Orville W. Hermans on August 22, 1950, at St. Peter Church in Lincoln. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1987. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, bird feeding/watching. She was happiest in the summer when she could be outdoors all day. Her favorite hobbies were tending to her garden and mowing her lawn. She loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren raid her candy drawer. She also enjoyed spending time with her family especially Daughter, Germaine and Grandson, Jesse. She worked very hard her whole life and kept her promise to Orville by keeping the farmstead looking nice. Survivors include her children: Jill Wachal (life partner Patti McCosky); Germaine (Jeff) Kollross; Randy (Tammy) Hermans. Six grandchildren: Kim (Aaron) Wallace; Chad (Mindy) Kollross; Angie (Chris) Knapp; Cory (Mandy) Kollross; Jesse (Billie) Hermans and Rachelle Hermans. Twelve great grandchildren: Nolan, Alayna and Mason Wallace; Maisie, Sophie and Lucy Hermans; Dylin (fiancée Danella), Braydin, Calin and Adin Kollross; Isaiah and Jeremiah Hermans and one great-great grandchild, Legend Hermans. Brother, Donald (Germaine) Routhieaux; Sister, Shirley Metlzer; In laws: Veronica (Ted) Ploof, Janet Hermans, Richard Charles and Step-sister: Sister Mary Gabriel Van Dreel. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; father in law and mother in law, Frank and Philomine (Vaness) Hermans; one Brother, Larry Routhieaux; one Sister, Verna (Lawrence) Jadin; Brothers in law and Sisters in law: Hubert Hermans, Milton Metzler, Norbert (Lucy) Rueckl, Linus (Beatrice) Hermans, Marie Charles and infant granddaughter, Mary Lynn Wachal. Ethel was thankful to her family and friends for making it possible to stay in her home as long as she did. The visits and phone calls meant everything to her. Bringing meals and her favorite treats were very much appreciated. She was well cared for and felt your love. The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Laura Buresh, special friend and neighbor, for all the support she provided to Ethel and Germaine. Also, thank you to Ashley from Unity Hospice, and the staff at Autumn’s Promise Assisted Living Facility.
