Verna R. Christoff, 96, Luxemburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born to the late Mathias and Rose (Kozlik) Wessely on April 9, 1930, in the town of Montpelier. She graduated from Luxemburg High School. She married Elmer Christoff on May 21, 1941, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilsen.
Verna was an active member and dedicated volunteer at St. Mary Catholic Church, Luxemburg. She was a member of the St. Mary Christian Mother Society, the Financial Life Court 1186, and served as treasurer. She was a member and volunteered for the American Legion Ralph Klein Auxiliary Unit 262 of Luxemburg. Verna cooked many meals for parish funerals and counted weekend collections. She served as a poll worker for the Town of Luxemburg and as a courier for the Bank of Luxemburg. After marrying, she and Elmer ran the family farm and were blessed with five children. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, music, and making her own Christmas candy. She also enjoyed going to lunches, bowling and playing cards. Verna and Elmer enjoyed attending naval reunions.
Survivors include her children Tom (Judy) Christoff, Green Bay; Dr. Kathleen DeJardin, Arlington, VA; Jim (Nancy) Christoff, Luxemburg; Diane (Bruce) Beecroft, Little Chute; and sister-in-law Christine (Ed) Eckert, Gilbert, AZ. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, Brian (Bethany) Christoff, Ann Arbor, MI; Stacy (Erik) Bartelsen, Verona; Melanie DeJardin, Luxemburg; Jennifer (John) Jacques, Mount Vernon, MO; Sarah (Danny) Peterson, Summerville, SC; Laura (Ross) Neher, Green Bay; and Matthew Christoff, St. Paul, MN; ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by husband Elmer; daughter Nancy Hass; parents Mathias and Rose Wessely; two brothers Joseph (Eleanor) Wessely, Daniel (Ruth) Wessely; and one sister Audrey (Marcellus "Sib") Bricco.
Friends may call between 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1412 Main Street, Luxemburg. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Very Rev. Daniel Schuster officiating and Rev. Matthew Colle, concelebrating. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Luxemburg.
